Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Territory Manager, The IOM Technologist is responsible for conducting preoperative assessments, intraoperative monitoring, and post-operative reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of neurophysiology and the ability to interpret data in real-time.

 

  • Preoperative Assessment: Conduct thorough patient evaluations, including medical history review and explanation of the neuromonitoring process. Accurately apply recording electrodes according to standardized protocols.
  • Equipment Setup and Calibration: Prepare and configure neuromonitoring equipment for optimal performance. Implement troubleshooting procedures as needed.
  • Intraoperative Monitoring: Continuously monitor patient's neurological status during surgical procedures. Analyze electrophysiological data to identify potential neurological changes. Collaborate with the surgical team to optimize patient care.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Interpret complex waveforms and patterns to detect abnormalities. Correlate findings with surgical events and patient conditions, and communicate with appropriate staff.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate records of all monitoring activities, including patient information, equipment settings, waveforms, and clinical observations.
  • Quality Improvement: Contribute to the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Professional Development: Participate in continuing education programs to stay updated on the latest advancements in neuromonitoring.

Qualifications

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Current AHA CPR certification.
  • At least 1 year of IONM experience.
  • Strong knowledge of neuroanatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desired Skills

  • Advanced degree in neuroscience or related field.
  • Experience with advanced modalities.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and stoop for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment, up to 45 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for applying electrodes and operating equipment.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to surgical environments and potential biohazards.
  • Ability to adapt to variable work schedules, including on-call responsibilities.
