Responsibilities

  • Maintains master patient index by completing assigned portion of daily audit trail; corrects and communicates Problems according to established procedures.
  • Initiates the medical record by creating and processing the patient care record folder.
  • Maintains record availability by processing charts into the department; using chart mark-off Procedures; facilitating chart location activities.
  • Keeps health care providers informed by communicating availability or unavailability of the record.
  • Requests, uploads and logs Medical Records.
  • Assists the billing department with filling requests for medical records.
  • Review records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Prepares medical records for submission to insurance.
  • Maintains continuity of work operations by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Follows HIPAA policies and procedures to ensure protected health information is secure.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Able to perform all essential duties with or without accommodations, including but not limited to:

  • Basic medical terminology knowledge.
  • 1-2 years medical records experience.
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge and ability for data entry and retrieval using a standard keyboard.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Manage multiple projects and timelines.
  • High School diploma required.
